Flowchart of a step by step process

When a potential client visits your website, they’re likely asking themselves:

How does this service work? What’s the next step? Will this be easy and straightforward?

If your website doesn’t clearly outline your process, you could be losing out on clients who feel unsure about what to expect. That’s why explaining your service process on your website is such a simple yet effective way to build trust and encourage bookings.

Why Clarity Matters

Your process might seem obvious to you, but to someone who has never worked with you before, it could be completely unknown. A clear step-by-step breakdown helps potential clients feel reassured, informed and ready to take action.

Imagine they’re comparing two businesses:

  • One website is vague and doesn’t explain what happens after they make an enquiry.

  • The other outlines exactly how the service works, what they can expect, and how long it takes.

Which one do you think they’re more likely to choose?

How To Explain Your Service Process on Your Website

A step-by-step process gives clients confidence. Here’s an example of how I explain my web design process:

  1. Free consultation – We start with a free Zoom call to discuss your business needs.

  2. Quotation & agreement – I provide a written quote, and if accepted, we sign a contract and arrange a deposit.

  3. Onboarding Zoom & checklist – We finalise plans,  choose a week for the website build and you receive a bespoke checklist of what I need from you.

  4. Build week! Monday & Tuesday - design draft – I create a draft site and send you the link.

  5. Wednesday - revisions day – We go through the site together and agree on changes.

  6. Thursday - complete website build – Once approved, I make final tweaks and do some technical stuff.

  7. Friday - we publish! - you have a shiny new website!

This simple breakdown reassures potential clients and answers their biggest questions upfront.

Where to Add Your Process on Your Website

To make your process easy to find, consider adding it:

✔ On your homepage as a short, simple summary

✔ On a dedicated "How It Works" or "Our Process" page

✔ Within your service pages to provide more detail

✔ In your FAQs section to address common concerns

The Benefits of Explaining Your Process

Builds trust – Clients know exactly what to expect.

Reduces hesitation – Removes any uncertainty about working with you.

Saves time – Fewer repetitive questions about how your service works.

Boosts conversions – People are more likely to book when they feel informed.

If your website doesn’t yet explain your process, now’s the time to update it! A clear and structured approach makes your business look more professional, reassures potential clients, and increases the chances of them working with you.
