It's important to include keywords, (single words or or more commonly phrases), into your website to help Google understand your business and feature you in relevant search results. In other words, you need to use keywords to improve the SEO for your small business website.

Is That The Keyword Your Clients Are Actually Searching For?

It's essential to select keywords that your potential clients are actively searching for.

A word of caution: ensure the keywords you use are the ones your clients are actually using, rather than what you think you they are using. You might prefer using a highly specific technical term to describe what you do, but if it isn’t what people are typically searching for, it won’t work.

For instance, if you're an ophthalmologist, people may not know that term or how to spell it. Upon researching, you may discover that more people search for "eye doctor" instead.

Consider how people are realistically searching for your services and incorporate those words and phrases on your website. Be Precise And Use Normal English

Make it easy for Google to recognize your business by being precise and steering clear of jargon.

Use Local Keywords

If possible, include local keywords too. So, if you're an ophthalmologist in Macclesfield, ensure "ophthalmologist Macclesfield" is prominently featured on your website. Local keywords are highly effective. After all, there are lots of ophthalmologists in the UK, but how many in Macclesfield?

Listen To Your Clients

Pay attention to what your client actually say. Make a list on the words and phrases they use when talking to you. What questions do they ask? Those are the keywords you should include on your website.
